A popular gospel musician, Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko, has debunked rumours that he had been beaten to death because of his ex-girlfriend.
According to him, though an incident happened in which he was severely beaten by the ex-girlfriend's husband and an accomplice, he was still alive and not dead as being speculated.
Narrating his ordeal, Akwasi Nyarko explained that it all happened because he tried to offer help to a former girlfriend.
Speaking in an interview, the diminutive artiste revealed that the self girlfriend called him recently asking for help to pay her daughter's school fees as she had spent the GHC300 her husband had sent for that purpose.
"I showed her where I was. She came and I picked her in my car. I even asked her during our conversation in the car if it was not a trap but she said no."
"When we got to her place somewhere at Agric Kromoase [a suburb of Kumasi], she asked me to enter the room to talk to her daughter. As I entered the room, she locked the door.
"It was then that the supposed husband and his friend who is said to be working with TV3 entered the room, pounced on me and started taking videos," he is heard saying in the interview said to have been granted to Kumasi-based Otec FM, and posted on social media by GhPage.
The musician further said, "they asked me to call my wife to bring my car papers so they could take ownership of it. But I told them my wife is not even in town and she does not even know where the papers were. They later asked me to call my manager to send me 300 million (GHC30,000) to be given to them."
When they realised it was not possible to get the money, his attackers who had kidnapped him from about 8:30 am to 2:00 pm decided to sell the car. He then led them to a car dealer friend of his who helped to him to get them arrested.
The two men and the lady were arrested and detained at the Suame Police Station since Thursday and are to be put before court this week.
For Akwasi Nyarko, the whole incident was planned to extort money from him and had it not been God, he would have died. He thus advised men to stop entering ladies' rooms unnecessarily as it could land them in trouble.
Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko who recently came in the news for criticizing the organisers of the Ghana Music Awards for not awarding him is currently among popular gospel artistes in the country.
Though he has not been on the scene for that long, hit tracks like 'Y?b? y? dede' and 'B? mpae?' have ensured that the accordion playing singer is counted among the best.
Meanwhile, Akwasi Nyarko is not the only gospel singer to have had issues with an ex-girlfriend in recent times.
The case of Ernest Opoku and actress Nayas is still fresh in our minds and this makes one wonder is going on with male gospel musicians and their ex-girlfriends.
