Ghana’s Alabaster Box ended its six-week UK tour with exciting performances and interactive sections with the pupils of two schools in the UK on Monday.
The first school was Bishop Henderson [Primary] School in Bath and the other was Selwood Academy, which is a middle school in Frome.
Prior to performing in the schools, the tour had taken the group to several churches in London, Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster and Bath.
The churches include Jesus House, London, Trinity Baptist Church, Praise Christian Centre, Alperton Baptist Church, International Praise Centre, Sureway International Christian Centre, and many more.
The group also made a historic live appearance on BBC World Focus on Africa TV. They also did a recorded interview on BBC Focus on Africa radio, plus a live appearance on Rainbow Radio, London, which is aired live in Ghana as well.
Alabaster Box also performed to a crowd of over 40,000 at this year’s Festival of Life (FOL) at the Excel Centre in London. FOL is organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God and is hosted by Bishop E. A. Adeboye, who said of Alabaster Box “these boys from Ghana are wonderful”.
Group leader Sammy Dowuona described the tour as successful and a blessing, but the fun part, he said, was the time they shared with the kids at the two schools they visited at the end of the tour.
“I think we left the best for the last because it was such fun sharing our ministry, gift, and culture with the kids at Bishop Henderson and Selwood,” he said.
Sammy recalled that the group had performed at Bishop Henderson when they last visited the UK about seven years ago, saying that they were touched to find that the school had since been using their “Akwaaba” song to welcome pupils back to school on reopening day every term.
“It was very touching for us to hear the kids singing our song to us. In fact they also used one of our old songs “Talking ‘bout love” as a theme song for our visit,” he said.
At Selwood Academy, Sammy said the group got the opportunity to talk about the various cultures, music forms, dialects, natural endowments and other aspects of Ghana to the kids. Music Video
Meanwhile, prior to visiting the school on the last day of their tour, the group also shot their first official video for the opening song on their new CD. The song is “Hallelujah”.
Sammy said the video was shot by 17-year-old music video maker, Ben Curd, and it will go on Youtube soon.
“It is a simple and beautiful video shot in the early hours of the morning with the beautiful green landscapes of Bath as the background. The video is intended to encourage early morning worship to God,” he said.
The group is set to arrive in Ghana April 30th, 2014 to start preparations for the launch of the new album title “Level don Change”.
