Albums sell when marketed strategically – Opanka

Despite notions that music albums are currently suffering low patronage on our markets, popular Ghanaian rapper, Dadie Opanka, who recently launched his debut album titled Akwaaba, has opined otherwise.

Talking to Flex newspaper, the Me Pe No Saa artiste said he does not agree with people who claim music albums are no longer selling in Ghana, because there are so many tactical means to make sales.

“I don’t side with people who say albums are no longer selling, because albums sell when they are marketed strategically. Generally, every product needs marketing to get to the masses. People who say their albums are not selling are not doing something right,” Opanka stated.

The Obiaa Ne Ni Taste hit maker continued, “If CDs are not selling anymore, make good use of the new technological means. I’ve therefore put my album on iTunes for people to purchase. I also sold Akwaaba on customized pen drives at the launch. If you play your cards well, you might as well make a few CD sales.”

Last Saturday at the Tema Vienna City, Dadie Opanka who has several hit singles, collaborative pieces and two mix tape albums to his credit, launched his much-awaited maiden album Akwaaba.

The official launch saw uncountable musicians and industry players who in their own small ways represented the event to support their colleague.

Akwaaba is an 18-track-album which featured renowned musicians like Gifty Osei, Okyeame Kwame, Ben Brako, Edem, Trigmatic, Choirmaster, Castro, 4×4, K.K Fosu, Kwaw Kesse and Flowking Stone.

Producers like Kaywa, Mix Masta Garzy, Ephraim, Seshie, King of Accra, Jerry and co also worked magic on the beats.

Real name Armstrong Affum, Opanka said Akwaaba signifies a new phase of him, far from what he is well noted for. The messages on the songs, he added, are strong, mind-boggling and enticing with groovy instrumentals.

Plans by Opanka Army Music to embark on an album tour are effectively underway.
