Alex Segbefia Buys Another House In Roman Ridge Again!

Thu, 6 Sep 2012 Source: Forum for Transparency and Good Governance

The Forum for Transparency and Good Governance is surprised that Mr Alex Segbefia, The Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, has still not been queried about a property he purchased popularly called Ashanti House, opposite the Jack and Jill school and James Camp Prisons. It is the largest house in the in Roman Ridge Ambassadorial Estates Area with over 15 rooms ,belonging to the late Mr Krobo Edusei, a Minister of State in the Nkrumah Regime and founding member of the defunct Peoples National Party .

We believe that the circumstances that Alex Segbefia came by purchasing this property smacks of fraud and abuse of public office contrary to section of our constitution which regulates the conduct of public officers.

We called for an investigation has to how Mr Alex Segbefia was able to acquire 5 million dollars to pay for this property. We also called for an investigation into the high spending at the office of the presidency and also suspicious electricity, water, non existent staff payments and fund payments by Alex Segbefia from January 2012 to March 2012 to 56 individuals at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council who cannot be traced or accounted for.No action has been taken.

Alex Segbefia has taken advantage of the weak government and has bought himself another house again in Roman ridge, for the price of 350,000 dollars, this time near the Choice FM studios close to the Accra Girls Junction. This house was formerly a military police outpost. How can Alex Segbefia be allowed to buy a critical government property like this without any scrutiny beggars belief! At this rate Dr Alex Tweneboah of GREDA should send him an application form since he is now becoming a property developer instead of a government official!

We have also called for Mr Alex Segbefia, in the interest of good governance accountability and transparency to stand down and submit himself to a proper investigation, but he is still at post laughing at the weakness of his own government!

The new President John Mahama must take action now. The government cannot allow the principles of good governance and accountability to be sacrificed on the altar of naked greed and a calculated and systematic intention to acquire and misuse government funds to acquire private properties.
