All is set for Western Region Nkabom Afahye 2004

Sekondi, Aug.6 GNA- Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, said on Thursday that all was set for the opening of the first Regional Homecoming Summit dubbed: "Western Region -Nkabom Afahye 2004". He announced this at the third press briefing on the summit in Sekondi.

The summit that would be held from Monday August 9 to Sunday August 15, 2004, would be on the theme: "Education - Key To Development". Mr Aidoo said Vice- President Alhaji Aliu Mahama was expected to open the summit while President John Agyekum Kufuor would later address a durbar of chiefs that would be climaxed with the launching of an Educational Fund.

Mr Aidoo said other activities lined up for the summit include a business exhibition and fair; investment and education forum; fun games; a musical concert; children's party; dinner dance, awards night and a non-denominational thanksgiving service.

Mr Aidoo said sponsorship for the summit was not encouraging. However, Goldfields Ghana Limited, had donated 75 million cedis towards the event while the management of Takoradi Beach Hotel had offered the place free of charge for the dinner dance and awards night.

He said the 11 district assemblies in the region had each contributed 20 million cedis, Bogoso Goldfields Limited, 50 million cedis, Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, 25 million cedis, Ghana Railway company, 10 million cedis and the Regional Coordinating Council, 100 million cedis.

Mr Aidoo commended the press for their contribution saying GoodNews FM had donated 20 million cedis while other radio stations and television stations had offered free air - time for promotion and publicity.
