With feverish preparations for the annual Abolofest underway, all is set for the 6th edition of the event, the Abolofest 2019 festivities at Kpong in the Eastern region.
Sham’una Dzanado, chairman for the Kpong Awareness Team, organizers of Abolofest 2019 who organized the previous events said he was excited for the upcoming event, indicating that the team is fired up for the show scheduled for the 18th to 22nd of April 2019 at the Kpong Lorry Park.
Explaining the objectives behind the festivities, Mr. Sham’una Dzanado averred that Abolofest, an art and exhibition event or Trade Fair aims to bring together businessmen and women within the locality and beyond where opportunities of a conducive economic environment are created for them to enhance their businesses, adding that the event also seeks to improve, motivate and enlighten the youth on their creativities.
Organisers, Kpong Awareness Team, who are this year supported by various corporate bodies, are also promising a thrilling and memorable experience for patrons.
Preparations for the occasion have taken shape. This year’s event will feature tunabu (an art exhibition event), product and service exhibition, quiz competition for students and pupils, games (football, volleyball, cards, canoe racing, draft, etc), hiking on mount Yogaga, etc.
The climax of the event is a musical street carnival on Easter Monday at the Kpong Lorry Park.
Kpong remains one of the busiest abolo hubs in the country. Abolo, the delicacy from which Abolofest is carved remains a preferred delicacy for all people of varying tribal and ethnic backgrounds, an economic activity which employs hundreds of mostly young women in Kpong.
All necessary arrangements such as security and rescue mobilization have been provided to ensure the success of the festival.
The festival has over the year’s boosted domestic tourism and enhanced economic activities in the Krobo Area and also raised the profile of the Easter celebrations of the people.
It is organized to coincide with the Easter celebrations in Kroboland and has been hosted by the lower manya krobo municipal Assembly since its inception in 2015. It is enjoyed by hundreds of holiday revelers from far and near.
Thousands of fans are expected to come from far and near to partake in this year’s event.
As Ghana prepares to move into the next phase of its development agenda, it stands to reason that tourism holds the key to providing the alternatives as domestic tourism such as Abolofest forms a significant part.
