Asamankese (E/R), Aug. 18, GNA - An upholsterer, Issah Alhassan, who had gone to tell the new West Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE) that he had been hired by his predecessor to kill him with charm, was remanded in custody by the Asamankese Circuit court, where he was arraigned on a charge of offensive conduct.
Alhassan pleaded guilty and would reappear before the court on August 25 for sentence.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan, said on July 24, this year, Alhassan visited the DCE, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye at his residence and showed him a talisman purported to have come from his predecessor, Mr Umar Amoah, who wanted him to be killed. Alhassan told Mr Sintim-Aboagye that he did not want to execute the job, hence, he was reporting the plot to him.
The court heard that the DCE expressed appreciations and gave him 50,000 cedis for "leaking" the plot to him. He also directed Alhassan to see a pastor in the town to pray on the talisman and have it burnt. Alhassan promised to continue alerting Mr Sintim-Aboagye whenever Mr Amoah approached him on the alleged plot.
Chief Inspector Idan said five days later, Alhassan approached the DCE again with some concoction, a piece of polyester fabric and a tin of powder that he claimed to have received from the former DCE for the purpose of carrying out the plot.
The DCE collected the materials and led Alhassan to the Asamankese palace for him to tell his story to the chief.
The court heard that when they got to the palace, Alhassan changed his story and said Mr Amoah never hired him to execute any "juju" on Mr Sintim-Aboagye, but rather, he only went to the DCE to instil fears in him so that he would give him money to subdue any "juju" that his predecessor might want to exert on him.
He was consequently handed over to the Police, who later charged him.
