A quarrel between two friends, Nana Isaac Opoku Adjei and Kwabena Ankama, over a missing fowl, led to Adjei trying to gouge out Ankama's left eye, a Sunyani Circuit Court was told on Thursday, April 28, 2005.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Alex Yartey Tawiah, prosecuting, told the court that on April 11, Adjei, a trader, suspected his friend Ankama of stealing his mother's fowl and confronted him.
A heated argument then ensued between them. The court heard that in the process Adjei pulled out a knife from his pocket, stabbed Ankama in the chest and eye and attempted to remove his left eye. Ankama has undergone surgery at the Sunyani Government Hospital, the prosecution said. The court, presided over by Mr Godfred Harrison Debrah, is expected to receive a medical report on the surgery at the next hearing.
Opoku Adjei who pleaded not guilty to causing harm, was granted a ?10 million bail to appear again on May 10.
