Sunyani (B/A), Sept. 28, GNA - A former secretary of the Sunyani Polytechnic Branch of Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party has declared his intention to contest the position of Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the party. Mr Annye Ofori Alfred, 33, who made his intention known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sunyani on Wednesday, noted that the spirit of the party had gone down in the Region stressing the need to rekindle and strengthen it to retain power in the 2008 election.
He said the party needed a "scientific" method of campaigning, which he described as house-to-house campaign to explain government policies and programmes to the people particularly those in the deprived communities to attract more members.
Mr Annye Ofori was not interested in platform campaigns, since the message could not reach the persons for which it was intended but who lacked the understanding of the policies of the government. He said his campaign team was working very hard to push through his bid and gave the assurance that he would work assiduously to attract 80 percent of the youth in the Region to join the party when given the nod. Mr Annye Ofori appealed to the party hierarchy to support him materially and financially to bridge the gab between the youth, party members and executives to enable them to be part of decision making. "As a TESCON member, I have gone through the political trends since 1992, with the hope that when given the mandate I can work hard to drive the youth to join the party".
Mr Annye Ofori holds HND certificate from the Sunyani Polytechnic and Teachers' Certificate A from the Berekum Training College. 30 Sept. 05
