Asabaako Music Festival returns to Busua Beach December 2-4

The increasingly buzzing beach revelry, Asabaako Music Festival is set to make a glorious comeback this December after a successful debut earlier in March, during the Independence Day weekend. A thrilling launch party was held on the Busua Beach over the weekend to kick-start the festival which has been slated for the Farmers’ Day Weekend, December 2-4.

The stunning Busua Beach in the Western Region was set alive with music from Ghana and the rest of the globe as local DJs in Busua and the Takoradi metropolis teamed up with guest DJs to thrill the people of Busua, tourists and holiday-makers at the Blackstar Surf Shop, last Saturday. Djs on rotation were Bebrave, Andy Stoner and DJ Shocka, who provided pulsating music back-to-back. The launch party set the tone for the Farmers’ Day Weekend event, which according to organizers will be the fixed period for the annual festival henceforth.

Translating as “One Dance” in Akan, the first Asabaako lived up to its name by bringing together a diverse Ghanaian and international audience in the breathtaking scenery of one of the region’s best loved tropical beaches. Exploding with a multitude of African music from Ghana and around the world, artists like Wanlov the Kubolor and Yaa Pono were accompanied by the eclectic African beats of DJs from Accra, Takoradi and London. Asabaako blended the most enchanting traditional and roots performances with the raucous scenes of a 21st century dance floor…and everything in between.

This December’s Farmers’ Day Weekend, Asabaako will over the three days feature artists from Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and the UK, while continuing to provide a platform for local underground artists, combining the best music in Ghana with that from across the continent and around the world. Organisers Beating Tracks, and their partners Entertainment Revolution, claim the event will be a three days of music, fun and celebration of African culture in one of the most spectacular locations in West Africa.

Festival organiser Kofi Debrah says “Asabaako is something completely different to anything else in the world. We combine Ghana’s best culture and music while showing the world all the natural beauty it has to offer. Anybody who was present at the last Asabaako will tell you what a party we had…expect more of the same this December!”
