Asanteman Council to organise traditional beauty pageant

Kumasi, Aug 18, GNA- The Asanteman Council would on August 20, organise a first ever traditional beauty pageant to showcase the beautiful cultural and traditional customs of the Ashantis. The pageant is being organised as part of the activities of the Asanteman 'Adae Kese' festival and the fifth anniversary of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

It aims at reviving some of the traditional dresses worn by the Asantes especially women and also encourage young girls to patronise traditional dresses.


A statement signed by Barima Asumadu Sakyi, Kumawuhene and chairman of the 'Adae Kese' Planning committee in Kumasi on Wednesday, said the ceremony would also be used to present awards to individuals and organisations which supported the 'Adae Kese' festival in various ways.


It said the ceremony would be attended by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene and other dignitaries.

The statement said the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), has pledged to offer prizes for the first three winners of the event. Melcom Ghana had also provided 10 million cedis towards the event while the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) had pledged to support the event.


The statement appealed to district assemblies, individuals and organisations to assist the planning committee to ensure success of the event.
