Assassins Arrive

A group of vocal youth calling itself the Youth Activists Forum has called on the security agencies to extend their physical protection to all religious leaders who have been listed among the reported hit-squad.

It claimed that a team of assassins, specially trained to carry out mafia-like executions of targeted individuals had arrived in the country and was at a hideout in Sogakope in the Volta region.

This was contained in a statement read at a press conference in Accra yesterday.

“Today, we are reliably informed that a twelve-man contingent of assassins has been smuggled to the country through the Elubo border from Sierra Leone to amongst other things execute this heinous plot put together by some key people in the NDC. These assassins are allegedly being hosted by one Corporal Sharp and Captain Sowa at a hideout in Sogakope in the Volta region,” the statement indicated.

According to the spokespersons, a rebel group-turned-political party in Sierra Leone, which recently issued a public statement in support of the NDC was behind the recruitment of the said assassins, saying it was a very unfortunate development, particularly as such killings were not new in the country.

“This is a sad development. We already have the wrath of God on the nation by the killing of Rev. Amoako of Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries International under similar circumstances. We urge all religious bodies to pray for this nation. Furthermore, we also urge the security agencies to extend assistance to these men of God.”

They said they were compelled to talk about the issue because of its disturbing nature and the fact that it had the potential of eroding the gains already made as an emerging democracy.

On the December 7 general elections, the group said it was aware of a high degree of money laundering that went on among key members of the NDC.

It hinted that the opposition party, under the cover of an All African Students Union (AASU) Awards, a Nigerian oil mafia descended on Ghana via a chartered flight and held a secret meeting at the La Palm Hotel with certain named personalities. Huge sums of monies reportedly exchanged hands at the said meeting, ostensibly to grease the NDC war chest, according to them.

Mention was also made of a $15million financial assistance from the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez to the NDC for which they claimed the country’s recent oil find was used as collateral.

Apart from a $2million deal the party allegedly had from Saudi Arabia, the Forum suggested that the electricity blackouts that rocked the country on voting day were part of the grand agenda to rig the elections.

“If for the NDC this year’s election is truly about national service and development, how come Professor Mills sanctioned the communist tactics of infiltrating and attempting to bribe ECG technicians to cause artificial power shortages across the country to cause disaffection towards government? We call on the ECG management to investigate this issue and bring to book those technicians who may be involved in this criminal act.”

It would be recalled that a long list of people was recently published in the local media as those targeted to be assassinated by the NDC the moment it comes to power.

Even though the list includes some politicians, clergy, media practitioners, chiefs, businessmen, etc., the Youth Activists Forum said it found the attempt to kill pastors and men of God the most bizarre.

“It is very worrying to know that this infamous list includes Dr. Mensa Otabil of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Cardinal Appiah Turkson of the Catholic Church, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Apostle Dr. M.K. Ntumi, immediate past chairman of the Church of Pentecost, just to mention a few.”

It said such parochial political interests should not be allowed to destroy the country, and called on all Ghanaians to fight against such nation wreckers.
