Literary stars at the second edition of an Evening of Words, Music and Wine (WMW) organised by the Accra International Book Festival (AIBF) Friday, left audiences enthralled after great performances.

Multi-Burt Award-winning author, Dr Ruby Yayra Goka took book lovers on an unforgettable safari into her life as a writer and dentist, listing some societal issues that motivate her writing projects.

Singling out her award-winning novel, ‘Plain Yellow,’ she noted the book was inspired by a rape incident reported in the media.

Bolstered by the desire to keep the discussion of sexual abuse in the public domain, Dr Goka said she hurriedly wrote the novel in less than six months, despite the pressures of her practice.

But her family, especially the mother has been more than helpful on her writing journeys, she told interviewer and Executive Assistant at EBN TV, Michael Gyimah.

The second WMW opened with poetry reading and performances by two poets, Celestine Nudanu and Abotre.

Poet Derrick Korlettey also performed one of his poems about a lady he failed to strike a conversation with at the bus stop, sending the audience into fits of laughter.

But it was Mr Gyimah who received the loudest applause when he promised to start a show on EBN TV that promotes Ghanaian literature.

“It was a great night with all these literary stars who are doing their own thing to promote Ghana and Africa,” a patron at the WMW told Samuel Wormenor, Programmes Officer at the Accra International Book Festival.
