Accra, Dec. 10 GNA - Mr Jonathan Richardson, Australian High Commissioner in Ghana on Sunday hinted that the High Commission was collaborating with the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) to introduce a film festival that would portray films from the two countries.

He said the film festival would deepen the economic as well as the cultural ties between the two nations.

"This is something that the High Commission had been looking up to for a long time since we assumed office".

Mr Richardson was speaking at an Australia film preview in Accra in collaboration with the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI). The feature film titled: "Strictly Ballroom" is one of the best Australian story lines that portrays the culture and life of the people of that country.

Mr Richardson said the film festival would serve as means by which the people could explain themselves, not only to the local people but the outside world.

He assured the institute of continuous support from the High Commission in their endeavours. Mr. Martin Loh, Director of NAFTI commended the Australian government for assisting the institute with a lecturer in Script writing and screen play which, he said, had gone a long way to help students in those areas.

He said it was refreshing to see the High Commissioner take keen interest in the development of the Ghana Film Industry and upgrading of students in those fields. Mr Richardson later presented 12 Australian feature films on DVD to the institute. 10 Dec. 06
