The late Nigerian Singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad
The post-mortem examination of the remains of the renowned artiste, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, reportedly failed to determine his cause of death.
This revelation was made by Wahab Shittu, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, during a press briefing at the coroner's inquiry in Lagos State on Wednesday.
Shittu stated that the forensic expert responsible for the autopsy informed the coroner that significant decomposition had occurred by the time the examination was performed.
“According to him (pathologist), the cause of death cannot be determined because by the time they conducted the test, the body had decomposed, and they can't determine the cause of death.
“So, in summary, he is saying the cause of death cannot be ascertained. When you say the cause of death cannot be ascertained, it means it is suspicious, it is not clear. No particular reason.”
Shittu further relayed that the pathologist mentioned the possibility of Mohbad's death being linked to a reaction from certain medications administered before his passing.
"The pathologist could not confirm whether the medications were directly responsible for the death," Shittu added.
The inquest has been postponed until June 11th for further questioning of the forensic expert.
Mohbad's autopsy commenced eight months ago
The Lagos Police Command verified the exhumation of Mohbad's body for post-mortem analysis on September 21, 2023, due to the suspicious nature of his passing.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police, announced this through his official communication channels.
Additionally, Hundeyin reported the detention of the nurse implicated in delivering the lethal injection to the late musician.
In the early stages of the probe, the police constituted a 19-member panel to carry out a thorough investigation, which included tasks like exhumation, autopsy, inspection of the scene, medical evaluations, and gathering statements from suspects and witnesses.
The panel was charged with concluding their detailed investigation within a fortnight.
