Multiple award-winning sensations, Okyeame Kwame aka rap doctor, has advised Ghanaian musicians to desist from using the term “tuntom broni” in their songs.

“Tontum broni”, is a Twi expression which literally means a beautiful black woman whose complexion is likened to that of a white lady. This phrase has been used countless times in songs by veteran musicians such as Amarkye Dede,Daddy Lumba,Kojo Antwi, Kwabena Kwabena among others.

According to Okyeame Kwame, the “tuntum broni” terminology appears to have spurred a number of Ghanaian ladies to resort to bleaching.

Okyeame Kwame, who is one of the judges in the ongoing MTN Hitmaker season 5 reality show held at the National Theatre on Wednesday ,made this pronouncement when he took his turn to comment on the performance of Kelvin, a contestant on the reality show. Kelvin who used the term”tontum broni” in the song he performed on the night titled “odo” did not sit well with Okyeame Kwame:

“You have a great voice and I like your song but why did you use “tontum broni” in the song? It’s been used over and over again by so many musicians and it’s the reason why so many women are bleaching since they believe a beautiful woman is the one with light skin” Okyeame Kwame revealed passionately.

The ‘Small Small’ hitmaker continued by not only advising the contestants to desist from using the “tuntom Bronx” terminology in their songs but also advised musicians, in general, to refrain from the act.
