Ghanaian-born film maker, Baff Akoto’s award winning documentary, ‘Football Fables’ will be available on DVD this weekend in the UK. To coincide with the release, on Sunday 27 March a screening of the film will be held at Brixton’s Ritzy cinema in South London followed by a Q&A session with the director, hosted by Little White Lies. Advance copies of the ‘Football Fables’ DVD will be available to purchase on the day. Alternatively, to pre-order your copy visit www.footballfables.co.uk

How do young African footballers come to the attention of the big teams like Real Madrid or Manchester United? “Football Fables”, winner of Golden Knight Awards for best feature screenplay and best foreign feature, lifts the lid on the inner workings of Ghanaian football migration. The documentary unfolds through the eyes of Francis, a talented teenager on the brink of a dream transfer. His talent is undoubted, his desire immeasurable, but will that be enough to secure his future? Francis’ journey sheds light on the middle men who earn a living making sure their cream rises to the top. A system which (although far from perfect and in spite of itself) produces some of the best players in the world.

The special features on the DVD includes: African football history mini-feature, Interviews with Sulley Muntari (Ghana and Sunderland/Inter Milan), Richard Kingson (Ghana and Blackpool), Carlos Alberto Parreira (World Cup Brazil winning manager).

The 2010 cinema release “Football Fables” was an internationally acclaimed debut from Baff Akoto, born to Ghanaian parents, and a product of London’s Ravensbourne. A colourful youth as a door to door salesman, strip cabaret DJ and haute French cuisine chef imbued Baff with a distinct view of the world which is evident throughout his work. Baff Akoto is currently directing his first TV drama for Channel 4 (to be aired in late 2011) and is also developing his first narrative feature film. His favourite food is jollof rice.
