Over the weekend the Northern regional capital of Tamale was the place to be. The place was set agog with some rousing performances from some of the region’s well-known musicians, who used the concert to campaign for calm in the area during the elections as part of this year’s Beacon of Peace concert organized by Hafred Security Company.
The Tamale Sports Stadium was the venue for the concert. Attendance was not that impressive but renditions that night were replete with glitz and glamour. The artistes managed to leave a lasting impression in the minds of all who came to witness the show.
Performances by Lord Wumpini, Sherifatu Gunu, Sheriff Ghali (2005 Best Reggae Artiste in Ghana), Blakk Rasta, Malaika, Abu Saddique and Abu among others were clear indications that northern artistes had a lot to offer the music industry.
The audience mainly consisted of students from Tamale Polytechnic and other institutions in the metropolis.
The night’s performance started around 9:30pm Saturday and ended about 3.00am Sunday dawn.
The group Otumba kick-started the show, while other local artistes such as Daddy King, Abada and Abu Saddique followed with their own thing. One after the other, Malaika, a Tema based reggae musician; Kawa Stone also from the North and Sherifatu Gunu came to shake the stage. Ayisoba, Lord Wumpini, Blakk Rasta and Abu also added spice to the show.
The artistes mounted the stage with the message: “We are all one people and we must love one another no matter what.”
The concert which was an initiative of young musicians from the Northern region who have contributed to peace building through their music over the years was sponsored by Brooks Support Services.
