Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy
Music entrepreneur Baba Sadiq has shared his side of the story about what caused his ongoing legal battle with Reggae/Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.
In an interview on 3FM, Baba Sadiq explained that the dispute began when he backed Afrobeat star King Promise over Stonebwoy to win the much-anticipated Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year title.
According to Baba Sadiq, he had made a tweet declaring his support for King Promise, which infuriated some of Stonebwoy’s fans. "In fact, the genesis of all of it was just a simple tweet that said, ‘Keep winning my King, my AOTY.' There was a repost of a King Promise Canadian performance, and then the fans began to come in and attack, and all of that," he said.
Amid the exchange, a fan made an allegation that Baba Sadiq was indebted to Stonebwoy, prompting a reply from him.
The situation intensified when Stonebwoy allegedly made an unwelcome phone call to Sadiq's wife. Followed by some of Stonebwoy’s fans attacking her on social media.
These events, he said, seemed like an orchestrated attempt to involve his wife in the feud, forcing Baba Sadiq to take legal action against Stonebwoy.
"Then I responded to one of them who had suggested that I was owing Stonebwoy, and he has done me a lot of favours and everything.
"So I gave a response. Then, based on that, Stonebwoy called my wife, and I was not happy with the things that he had said to my wife.
"And later, when I saw a tweet on social media from his fan also referring to my wife, I felt that it was not coincidental. I felt strongly that it seemed to have been part of a grand plan to get my wife involved," he added.
As the matter is set to go to court, Baba Sadiq said he will just hold back.
"He says he has the audio of that, but I was not really happy with the call to my wife and the things that he had said to my wife.
"And he is also not happy about it. And so, if he is not happy about it, he is going to court. That is fine. I am sure the lawyers can pick it up and handle it," he said.
