Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - Mrs Gloria Attison, a 52-year-old baker at Regimanuel Gray Estates in Tema, has won the top prize of a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 vehicle in the second draw of the Vodafone Rewards Promotion. Mrs Attison, whose phone number is 0208230006, is the Managing Proprietor of Nosta Services.
When Fiifi Banson, host of the draw, called Mrs Attison live on phon= e last Friday from the Trade Fair site, where the draw was held, and told h= er that she had won a car, her first reaction was: "Really, I can't believe it?" Later when she was sure it was real, she asked, "What do I do?" When=
she was asked if she could drive from home to the venue and pick up her c= ar immediately, she said it was too late in the night to do so. Mrs. Attison, who has three grown up children, later told the GNA on=
phone that "we have a family car but this will be my first personal car." Her eldest son, Enoch, also told the GNA that the Pajero was his to drive. The draw also gave away motorbikes, five laptop computers, 10 scholarships worth GH¢2,000 each, 50 ipods and 300 Vodafone branded mob= ile phones. During the draw, three other persons also won mobile phones through a random selection of their badge numbers and one other winner through a fu= nny dancing competition. But the draw was not without "a few hitches", as an official of PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) described it. During the draw for four numbers for the motorbike winners, the host=
mistakenly pressed the key and the computer drew five numbers instead of four. The fifth number was then adjudged the winner of the top prize, the=
Pajero. Officials from PWC and the Gaming Commission said in spite of that glitch they were satisfied with the process because that last number woul= d have been drawn on its own, anyway. Another hiccup that got the crowd criticising the host was when he called winners on phone and directly asked them "what is your name?" defy= ing the first rule in telephone manners, which says "when you make a call, fi= rst introduce yourself before you ask for the identity of the person on the other side". As a result of this, the host was asked by a winner of a motorbike, a woman from Mampong, "how can you ask for my name when you have not told m= e yours?" The host refused to give his name until the woman gave the phone to her husband. Again, when the host called the winner of the car, Mrs. Attison, his=
first question was "what is your name?" The line then went off, making th= e crowd scream "she hung up because of your bad telephone manners". The first monthly draw saw 34-year-old Joe Habib, a resident of Wa i= n the Upper West Region and manager of Asare Original Pay all Lottery Compa= ny, winning the top prize. The Vodafone Rewards Promotion would last until October 31, 2009, bu= t the ultimate prize package worth one million dollars, comprising of a plu= sh fully furnished four-bed room house at Trasacco Valley, a Mitsubishi Paje= ro 4x4 car with a driver and one year internet connectivity, would be given away on November 6, 2009. Mr. Isaac Abraham, External Communications Manager of Vodafone Ghana= , said the deadline for entries for the ultimate draw was October 31, 2009. He said for each draw, winners would be contacted by phone within th= e space of 48 hours, adding that "if we are not able to reach any winner, h= is or her prize would be passed on to the next person".
