After her bout with TV3?s Mentor, Rebecca Acheampong went under to work on her album. The album, titled 'Sugar', is the very essence of the word - sweet.

The 12-track CD (8 on cassette) is the debut album of Becca. She describes the album as ?afro centric, an eclectic potpourri of songs that will touch everyone?. Like almost every chanteuse, Becca, 22, started from the church. Coming from a music background, she always dreamed of writing her own music, having it produced and performing on stage.

'Sugar' has been in the mill for about a year and a half now and it is ready for the rest of the world to hear. Featured on the tracks are Kwabena Kwabena, King Ayisoba, Nana Yaa, Partan and a couple others.

The album set to be released next month was produced with live instruments played and recorded in the studio.

It just shows how much effort has been put into it. You lied to me was written and recorded the first day she went into the studio. The first line ?I?ve been searching?? had been swimming in her head for a while and with Kiki?s (her producer) help, the beautiful melody was strung together.

Most of the songs on 'Sugar' were written in the studio. The songs? lyrics were written mainly by Becca and Kiki. The title track of the album, Sugar, talks about her lover?s sweet doting ways. She refers to him as her Julius Caesar who drives her absolutely crazy. 'You lied to me', which features Kwabena Kwbena is in two parts and has received massive airplay lately. It talks about dealing with the betrayal of a dear one.

Rebecca has broken away from the Acheampong family version of ?Destiny?s Child? (which included her younger brother), and has set into orbit a solo career with a lot of promise. In her subsequent albums, she fantasizes about collaborating with Hugh Masakella, 2Phase, Usher, Sting, R. Kelly, John Legend and most definitely, Beyonce,. It might be a bit of a stretch reaching out that far, but dreams do come true.

EKB Records is aiming at distribute Becca?s album, in Sierra Leone, Nigeria and a couple other West African countries. On the production team were Kiki and Kwame Yeboah, supported by Nana Fynn and Johnny Fingers. Becca is gifted with the kind of voice that is able to run up and down the musical scale with ease. She?s been able to come this far with her family?s support. Next month, be sure to have 'Sugar' as a part of your music collection.
