Becca To Release Afro Pop Album

Tue, 20 Feb 2007 Source: ghanamusic.com

Rebecca Acheampong, aka Becca, is set to release her maiden Afro Pop album titled, "Sugar"?, after she opted out of the TV3 Mentor II reality show, due to an alleged HIV and AIDS test conducted on her without her consent.

Prior to achieving this aim, a myriad of music fans across the length and breadth of this country thought her dealings against TV3, organisers of Mentor 1 and 2, would erode her chances of hitting the musical limelight, so not much attention was given her since she isolated herself from her colleagues in the contest.

Nevertheless, in view of all these arguments, the 22-year-old woman took the bull by the horn and has come out with an album.

Her action seemed to establish that young musicians could successfully emerge without having to parade themselves on TV reality shows.

Her album which has 12 songs on CD and eight on cassette, boasts of titles as, You lied to me (1 and 2), featuring Kwabena Kwabena, Sugar, and Heybaa, which featured Partan.

The others are, Why, Girls Girls and Hello both sang in Twi, Heaven, Naughty Girl, I don?t know you, and other interesting songs. She featured other artistes as Kofi T, and Ayisoba.

Her collaboration with Ayisoba in Why is very interesting. That particular track, including Sugar and You lied to me are likely to cause stirs on the music chart.

Most of the tracks are currently enjoying massive airplay. Listening to the fine tempos which back each of these songs, it?s crystal clear that the lady has put a unique touch into her work.

She sang a blend of African and American Afro Pop and her rhythms could be matched by only those of Kojo Antwi and Osibisa.

What make the songs even more pleasant is the import of the messages which come with them.

Opinions about the songs differ, but listening to the lyrics carefully, the kind of messages Becca is sending to love partners, easily motivate one to sing along.

Every song on the album was recorded by EKB Records in Accra, and produced by Kiki Banson.

It is expected that the song would give pop music enthusiasts, very nice treats during the Ghana @ 50 celeberation.

In an interview with Beatwaves in Accra, she said after she quit Mentor II, she took up the challenge to work hard and accomplish her aim of becoming a musician. She is thus set to release this maiden project soon.
