Becca gets $104,000

It was a weekend of unforgettable fun at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra when Ghana’s youngest music star Rebecca Acheampong, aka Becca staged a brilliant live performance at the launch of her maiden album, “Sugar”.

With support from Help Link Foundation, a non governmental organization, an amount of $104,000 was raised to assist selected needy children and institutions.

For over an hour, she held the audience spellbound with her music and stagecraft.

The young artiste turned out to be more than an entertainer last Friday as music fans gave her a standing ovation.

The event was attended by over a thousand people including a number of special guests. Arguably, it was the largest crowd Golden Tulip had ever contained.

Becca sang her heart out to fans, who could not stop screaming out her name. Her appearance on stage was dramatic and guests could not help but show appreciation with thunderous applause.

She performed 8 of her favourite hit tracks, with the audience singing along, an indication of the popularity of her music among music lovers in Ghana.

Becca, who performed with South African music legend Hugh Masekela and Mac Tontoh of Osibisa fame, raised an amount of $104,000 at the launch.

The proceeds would be used to assist some needy children in the country.

Masekela’s trumpet, which he has used for over twenty years, was auctioned for an amount of $6,250.

In a short message, Hugh Masekela, who is also an executive member of Help Link Foundation, said he believed that by adopting a positive outlook towards social issues a better Ghana could emerge.

Shaida Buari, Miss Ghana 2002, Founder and President of Help Link Foundation, in an interview revealed that coming into contact with various kinds of disability changed her attitude towards people, inspiring her to embark on a drive to let the world know they could do more for the underprivileged.

According to her, her vision for Help Link is to “help link the helpless to the helpful”.

Becca also indicated that is was always a privilege to give back to society what one had received because without the support of others her dreams could not have become a reality.

She said “even though I do not consider myself underprivileged, my society and the people around me have touched me immensely and for this I am grateful to God,” she observed.

Other benefactors of Help Link Foundation include George Weah, a footballer, Brown Berry, a presenter at Choice FM, Becca and Hugh Masekela.
