Ghanaian actor and film director Ken Fiati has said that being a celebrity is not just about flaunting wealth and fame on social media.

According to him, celebrities should use their influence to create meaningful and long-lasting impacts in their communities.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, speaking at the launch of the Ghana Celebrity Impact Awards in September 2024, Fiati highlighted that famous individuals have far-reaching platforms and have the responsibility to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

He called on his colleagues to reassess their priorities, recognize the power of their influence, and transform their fame into a force for good.

"As a celebrity, your influence extends far beyond the realm of entertainment. You have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on society, and it's essential to use your platform wisely.

"Rather than simply showcasing your wealth and status, you should strive to be a force for good, driving positive change and supporting important causes," Fiati stated.

By prioritizing substance over superficiality, Fiati said, celebrities could become leaders, role models, and sources of inspiration.

"Your influence can shape culture, challenge societal norms, and bring about a brighter future for all. So, use your platform to uplift, to educate, and to inspire, and your impact will be felt for generations to come," he added.

Fiati also called on the media to help highlight the positive work and projects of celebrities, rather than focusing on scandals and controversies.

“Instead of reporting only scandals and controversies, the media should highlight the positive work and projects for other celebrities to see the good examples and be motivated to do the same.

“When you share and project the good stories, you would be encouraging more of our stars to get involved in meaningful projects and make a difference in their communities. And this can create a ripple effect of kindness”, he added.
