Producer turned artiste, Magnom has stated that his decision to venture into singing and putting out his own songs has paid off by giving him a lot more recognition than he has ever had being a producer for over a decade.
“I was working with a lot of artistes but they were not ready to release their songs and that way I was not getting recognition for my work,” Magnom told 3news.com.
The producer who is noted for works such as Sarkodie’s hit song ‘Illuminati’ and Edem’s ‘Koene’ switched to being behind the microphone as a recording artiste in 2017 with his hit song ‘My baby’.
The song has been making waves since its release, receiving three nominations at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Magnom noted that recording a song with beats he created himself, allows him to present the beat better instead of having another artiste work with it.
“I just wanted to have control over my beats because you can have an idea for a beat, and no artiste will be in agreement,” Magnom stated.
According to Magnom, there was a point in time where a lot of the artistes he was working with were not ready to release songs, and this limited him as his production was not out there as often as he wanted.
“Everyone has their own timetable they are working with so you can’t push someone to put out a song if they don’t want to.”
Magnom noted that recording his own music is a way to put out the kind of beats he likes.
Asked between producing and singing which one would he choose, Magnom stated that he prefers his artiste role.
“Being an artiste is new to me, so I am kind of enjoying that now. It has added another avenue for me to make money. I think I will pick the singing for now,” Magnom emphasized.
