Popular Ghanaian musician and rapper Guru has opened up about his love for the University of Ghana, which he currently attends.
Speaking during an interview on Joy Prime, Guru, real name Maradona Yeboah Adjei, described his enrollment there as a dream come true.
He recalled how he actively participated in university life, contributing to Hall Week celebrations and collaborating with the Student Representative Council (SRC) to organise events, including a successful appearance by Mister Drew.
“The University of Ghana has always been my dream and being there feels like a dream come true. So I was willing to do everything for them.
“My first year, I was helping and sponsoring some of the Hall Week celebrations and I was collaborating with the SRC to help organise Evandy Hall Week celebrations. I was able to bring Mister Drew and it worked so well,” he said.
Speaking on his inspirations for enrolling in the university, the ‘Lapaz Toyota’ hitmaker expressed how the pandemic-induced boredom and encouragement from his mother led him to go back to school.
He stated that he initially enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, but later transitioned to Political Science and Information Studies. He added that he wanted to apply his knowledge on a global scale and work with the United Nations.
“After COVID, I was bored. So I said, “Okay, let me jump into academics because my mom loves academics so much she wants me to complete my degree and I jumped on the University of Ghana, basically to study a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and I later switched to studying political science and information studies and to put it into practice, I really want to work with the UN,” he said.
