Media personality, Abeiku Santana, has waded into the ongoing founders’ day controversy.
According to him, Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, not only found Ghana but was a core founding father of the African continent.
The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his Founders’ Day address to the state, disagreed with and rejected the idea that Kwame Nkrumah is the sole founder of Ghana.
The president said it was unfair to other patriotic heroes if one person was credited with founding Ghana.
Nana Addo, however, acknowledged Kwame Nkrumah’s immense contribution to Ghana's freedom from colonial masters.
“I speak to you this evening, rejecting completely the notion that one man founded Ghana. While Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions to our independence are undeniable, it is important to acknowledge for ourselves that respect that the struggle for our nation’s freedom was a collective effort spanning several generations,” President Akufo Addo said in his broadcast.
The comments of the president stirred up conversations nationwide.
Reacting to the statement, Abeiku Santana shared a video of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah with the big five at Independence Square on his official page on X and wrote, “Beyond Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is a founding Father of Africa ! peridot.”
The likes of former president, John Dramani Mahama, veteran journalist, Kwesi Pratt, historian, Anokye and many others disagreed with the president.
They insist that Dr Kwame Nkrumah founded Ghana.
