Blatter's Race

Imagine potato chips running out at the Etihad stadium, a referee attempting suicide before a game in Germany, another forgetting his whistle in the dressing room in Everton. Imagine strange bearded men in Stoke, the corner kick that never was in Wigan. But after FIFA president Sepp Blatter set the tone with his controversial and stupid comments about racism in football, it was no surprise the weekend turned out the way it did.

Indeed, everything is a race now. Life these days is so fast and furious. There is so much action and activity going on this year all over the world, well except for Ghana. Though our able president has assured us that all the ACTION certainly dey for last show. Back to the point I was making, what a frenetic week we’ve had. We had the 2012 budget statement read to parliament this week, a debate about whether one presidential candidate met the Queen’s Prime Minister, nude pictures on Facebook…Hold on, what am I saying? This is a platform for discussing serious stuff, FOOTBALL. Do forgive me. Here, we dwell on all the action from the best leagues in the world. By the best I mean the English League mainly, ok some Spanish league action, Italian too, etc. Basically, if I get to see it and it’s a big one, we definitely going to talk about it.

It’s always annoying when they push all the games to Saturday. You have to just sit around all day on Sunday waiting for one big one. Going over the Saturday games I realised how fantastic City are these days. Indeed money does buy you some level of happiness. United on the other hand aren’t at their best whiles Arsenal, well Arsenal are still Arsenal. They may be winning but I still think its a fluke. That bubble (RVP) will soon burst. I couldn’t help but notice how the special one has once again got his Madrid side playing like they are invincible.

I’m licking my lips patiently in anticipation for the first el-clasico. Even in Germany, its two points separating the top 2, Dortmund and Bayern. Thankfully, Ghana’s very own el-clasico started an hour earlier than the Chelsea-Liverpool game. Thus, I was saved the painful task (yea right) of deciding which game to watch. I get to enjoy an hour of tai-chi football I said to myself. The choreographed prayer before game should have warned me, I was going to be proved wrong. Not that much has changed from the last match I saw between Hearts and Kotoko. The tackles were still horrendous and the goal scoring poor but this game was incredibly exciting, quite surprisingly too.

It was far more exciting than what would have been my preferred game. To add to my woes, Liverpool won, effectively putting a handful of sand in my deliciously prepared hot Sunday gari soakings, with milk, some milo, groundnut of course, some ice cubes...errm what was I saying? I seem to be sidetracking a lot today, apologies. Fact is, AVB’s got to help me pick out the sand from my gari and from that ageing Chelsea side of course.
