Filmmaker, Socrate Safo is unhappy with assertions that Hiplife Grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone is too old to be part of the music group VVIP.
His comment comes on the back of a publication which quoted the dreadlocks-wearing artiste to have responded in the negative to suggestions that he is too old to join a relatively youthful, energetic music group.
“I have accomplished a lot and I am older than the rest in the group but this is not the case when it comes to music. There is that humility and respect that is how we have come out with hit tracks like ‘Skolom’ ft Sena Dagadu and ‘Alhaji’ enjoying massive airplay and patronage. When it comes to music, age is not a factor. What matters is the ability to coordinate well and deliver,” Reggie was reported to have said on Abusua FM.
Making a submission on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Thursday, Socrate Safo could not fathom why unknowledgeable people would want to retire ‘deep, energetic, good-looking’ Reggie Rockstone. He expressed that people should learn from Reggie Rockstone instead of waiting for his retirement, adding that there is no retiring age in show business.
“We must put a stop to this. We retire our footballers, musicians instead of tapping experience from their experience. You’ll see some young and ignorant people mount unnecessary pressure on you and you subsequently bow out. Reggie, move on. Don’t be intimidated by these kids. I don’t see anything wrong with his craft. He still sounds good so what is the issue? He can dance, he’s handsome, he can dance so well so I don’t get why someone should raise this issue. In showbiz, there’s no retiring age,” he noted.
Reggie Rockstone joined VIP [which was made up of Zeal, Promzy and Prodigal] in 2013 after the exit of Promzy. The group then metamorphosed into VVIP and has since produced a number of hit songs and won awards both locally and internationally.
VVIP recently won Best African Group and Best Music Video at the All Africa Music Awards.
