Fired host of Ekosii Sen, on Asempa FM, Kwabena Bobie Ansah, is really an embittered man. The broadcaster has vowed never to allow his kids or even grandchild to work with any establishment owned by the Multimedia Group Limited (MMGL).
Bobie, who strongly believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had a hand in his unfortunate predicament, claims he was dismissed without any plausible explanation, and has thus accused management of the MMGL, owners of the station of pandering to the whims and caprices of the NPP.
According to him, a source within the opposition party whispered to him that because of his perceived affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) some MMGL top brass, including the Chief Executive, Kwesi Twum and Chief Operating Officer, Ekyi Quarm have been compromised and impressed upon to show him the exit.
In his first televised interview on Metro TV’s Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF) after his dismissal, he debunked the allegation that he was being financed by the NDC, pointing that the Land Rover he owns, was purchased at a cost of $15,000 in 2007 when the NDC was in opposition.
"So will you go back to Multimedia if they call you?” Kweku Sintim-Misa, affectionately called KSM asked.
“Multimedia? No way, no way! I don’t like people who look down upon me. I don’t like people who look down on their fellow man. Even if they will give me heaven, not even my children’s children will work with Multimedia. Kwesi Twum has not been fair to me. Kennedy Agyapong accused Matilda Asante openly that the NPP has given money to Matilda Asante, Special Assignment, what have they done about that? Alhaji Haruna Alidu accused two gentlemen at the Joy Newsroom that they came to their office requesting for a car so that they can work for the NDC openly, what they done about it? On several occasion, they’ve accused Kojo Oppong Nkrumah - I hope Matilda and Kojo will not take this as personal – of being biased, working against the NDC; what have they done about it? That is why I have been saying that I need an explanation [on] why I was sacked. If the intention is that Bobie is working for the NDC so we will sack him, then Kwesi Twum has not been fair because the same allegations that have been leveled against me have been leveled against others in the same corporate office. Nobody has come out to say that I Bobie Ansah walked up to him for money…If you have any evidence, you have any proof; you bring it on the table. I want Kwesi Twum and Ekyi Quarm if indeed they have conscience, they should come and tell the truth about what I did.”
On Wednesday, 22nd February, the late-afternoon political discussion programme on the Accra-based commercial radio station nearly resulted in fisticuffs when scores of NPP activists besieged the station’s premises at Kokomlemle on the Faanofa Road, in protest against what they perceived to be bias of the host against a member of their communication team, Hopeson Adorye.
The timely arrival of Police personnel and some private security persons prevented what could have been a nasty situation.
Following the incident, Bobie revealed on TGIF, that management impressed on him the need to go on a 2 month all-expenses-paid vacation to cool off while the dust settled.
He was however handed a letter terminating his appointment on the 19th of April with a GHS 6,000 compensation.
Clearly unhappy at the treatment meted out to him, he slammed the CEO of MMGL for “betraying” him with “GH¢ 6,000.”
“When Kwasi Twum came to me in Kumasi and asked me to come and work for him, I was driving my Land Rover. Despite (Osei Kwame, CEO of PeaceFM) bought me a brand new Land Rover. Yes, I don’t like some of the structures at Despite Group of Companies, but that man (Osei Kwame), he knows how to treat his workers,” he said.
Asked what he makes of remarks about the show that it raises the country’s political temperature and the show itself is packaged in such a way that it has become bias in favour of the ruling government, Bobie responded that those critics are hypocrites.
He added that he will not stop delving into the private affairs and character of those seeking the highest office of the land.
“When we talk about tolerance…If anybody tells me that Bobie’s programme raises the political temperature in the country, then it means, the person, I don’t think has tolerance for anything…KSM, you decide that you want to go and vie for the highest position in Ghana, that is the presidency; that day you will see what people will say about you. You want to become a president or you are a president and you don’t want us to discuss or to talk about you? Since I don’t want people to discuss me, that Is why I’m not running for president. You want us to entrust our destiny, the nation’s economy, the natural resources into your hands and you don’t want us to scrutinize you? You see people going around saying ‘let’s talk about issues, let’s talk about issues; issues-based politics’. What is issues-based politics? If you’re sick, I will talk about it, if you’re a drug addict I will talk about it. If you’re an informant for any international security organization, I’ll talk about it….Even when one is seeking to become an ‘Abusuapanyin’, that person is scrutinized…
“You know those people they preach like the Pastors; ‘listen to what I’m saying, but don’t emulate my lifestyle’, …does that make sense? We need to scrutinize our leaders, those who want to lead us. And, I Bobie, will do so today and tomorrow. Infact, even if I die, in my second world I’ll do it. So if after discussing issues that the economy is booming…, we must find out why it is booming. Probably, you are bringing in drug money which might later destroy our descendants. ..So you can’t tell me you’re sick and yet desire to be president so we shouldn’t discuss your health issues; we will talk about it…You can’t tell me you’re seeking to be president and have been tagged with being a drug addict but if we discuss it it raises political tension; we will talk about it,” he screamed.
An embittered Bobie Ansah, told KSM that Ekosii Sen is his baby since he moulded the programme into what it is now and described his time spent at Asempa FM as a wasted period.
“I am more than a bitter person. Look at my eye[s] and you would understand me. I am very bitter, you can’t tell me I should not be bitter. Asempa was just a small station, Ekosii Sen was just a small programme. I built that programme, that station with my energy - everything I had - only for one day the owner to come to me and tell me ‘we don’t need you anymore’...They’ve taken away my baby, they’ve taken away my child, they’ve taken away something I love…I don’t have any friend now, my friend is that programme and they have taken it away from me and that makes me a bitter person," he said.
