Kumasi, April 1, GNA - A 96-page book on Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was on Wednesday launched at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, as part of activities marking the 10th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of Asantehene.
It is authored by Mr Kojo Yankah, Communications Expert and former Ashanti Regional Minister and published by UNIMAX MacMillan Company Limited.
The twelve-chapter book is titled "Otumfuo Osei Tutu II -The King on the Golden Stool".
It captures achievements of Otumfuo Osei Tutu since his enstoolment, especially his insight into traditional rule vis-=E0-vis modern governance and his vision for the Asante Kingdom and the nation.
The book also traced the history of Asantes, how they became a Kingdom, and roles played by Otumfuo Osei Tutu I and Okomfo Anokye in building and consolidation of the Kingdom.
Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Emeritus Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi who launched the book said the highlights were the virtues upon which Asanteman was founded. He said it gave a background of the religion, economic, socio-cultural beliefs and practices of Asantes as well as the unity of purpose that existed among them.
Most Rev. Sarpong commended Mr Yankah for the good work done and hoped the public would patronise the book. Mr Yankah said he was motivated by the sterling leadership of Asantehene, since his enstoolment a decade ago and that informed his writing of the book. Sir Chief Dr Gabriel Igbenidion, Head of Benin Kingdom in Nigeria, the Special Guest, bought the first copy auctioned for 50,000 dollars. Sir Igbenidion commended Asantehene for giving meaning to traditional rule through innovative programmes for the benefit of his subjects.
