Bulgarian Women Being Named After World Cup Winners?

Over 3000 Bulgarian women share the name with the countries taking part in the Football World Cup.The majority of the women in question bear the same name as the African country of Ghana – 2977 of them, those named Argentina count 20, Denmark 7 and one woman share’s the name with Italy, the Sofia-based daily “Journalist” reported.

“The question is whether all those who share the name with Argentina will be supporting the Diego Maradona’s selection?”, the daily wonders.

In the past usually boys were named after the renowned football players.The most famous case was the one of Manchester Levidzov from Svishtov – the man who had initiated 12 court processes requesting to change his family name to United. Though he never won any of those cases he managed to get the court’s permission for his nickname United to be written in his documents.Now, he continues the tradition planning to name his son Beckham, after the British soccer star David Beckham.
