Butterflies invade Commonwealth Hall

Legon Accra, March 8 GNA - For about week now, students of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon have been in co-habitation with some giant moths whose origin remains unknown. The strange insects are black with brown spots on their wings. When they fly some powdery substances get flown up in the area and have a strong affinity for light and dump areas. Most of the bath houses and bedrooms in the Hall have been taken over by the flies.

Early in the morning, students find it difficult to take their bath, especially when the tabs are not running because the moths often fall into the buckets and release the powdery substances and their wings to pollute the water.

A member of the Hall Mr. Ken Osei Ampofo, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, disclosed that the invasion of the moths was an annual occurrence. But he was quick to react that this year, the sizes of their numbers have been too massive.

The fear of the students is that they would be infested with skin rashes and other related infections if pragmatic measures were not adopted to get rid of them.
