Quite a number of people on social media are puzzled over Stonebwoy’s reaction to a video clip which captured an alleged thief facing the music for his actions.

The shirtless suspect was made to lift what appears to be a heavy metal as a punishment for allegedly stealing at Teshie, a suburb of Accra.

Although it is unclear when the incident happened, a footage uploaded on Sunday, May 3 triggered a reaction from the reggae/dancehall artiste as he pointed to a tattoo on the chest of the suspect.

“Can you see his SM tattoo?” his reply to a tweet read.

Stonebwoy’s reaction has courted controversy on social media with tweeps wondering what he sought to communicate and achieve.

SM is an acronym for Shatta Movement, the fan army of dancehall musician Shatta Wale. Until June last year, there was a rift between the two artistes. Both had been claiming to be the best in the game and had on many occasions thrown direct and subliminal jabs at each other.

The rift heightened during the 2019 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs). While Stonebwoy was up the VGMA stage taking his award, Shatta Wale was seen approaching the stage with a host of others presumed to be his fans. Stonebwoy who felt threatened, pulled out a handgun handed him on stage by one of his entourage, a scene that sparked a scuffle between the two artistes and their followers.

The awards event was temporarily halted and the topmost two awards for the event, Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, were deferred due to the melee.

After the incident, they patched up and decided to organise a peace concert dubbed "Ghana First" which is yet to see the light of day.

They have since been ‘friends’ but some say his reaction to the alleged thief’s video could spark an altercation. Others however opine there is nothing wrong with Stonebwoy's tweet.
