A Kumasi Circuit Tribunal has sentenced a car dealer of Obuasi, Joseph Gorden, to a five years' prison term on his plea of guilty to the charge of stealing.

Prosecution Officer, Chief Inspector Region Kesewah, told the tribunal chaired by Justice Earnest Yao Obimpe that on May 1, this year, at Anamangye Nkwanta in Kumasi the accused approached the complainant and introduced himself as a car dealer.

The complainant, Mr. Akwasi Wiafe, a fitter at Anamangye Nkwanta, decided to offer his saloon Opel Cadet taxi-cab with registration number AS 6896 C for sale.

Inspector Kesewah explained that the accused expressed interest to send the taxicab to a certain revered minister at Obuasi to buy.

Joseph (accused) used his Toyota taxicab with registration number AS 3681 R as a collateral and left with the complainant's taxicab, which was to be sold for ?7 million and promised to bring a feedback the following day.

According to the prosecutor, the Toyota taxicab that the accused left with the complainant was later found to be a stolen car.

The complainant waited in vain for the accused, until a month later, when he reported the incident to the Obuasi police.

The accused was later spotted at Bekwai in Ashanti and arrested by the police whereupon he confessed to having sold the car for ?7 million but could not retrieve it.

The accused was sent to Suame police station on another stealing charge and upon investigations was put before court and convicted.
