Some call him the Carlos Santana of his generation but the young stringman prefers to remain simply as Owura K, the enterprising guitar player from Akyem-Tafo in the Eastern Region.

After making a useful impact with his debut album titled Just Imagine which came out on the Scratch Music label, Owura K is set to launch his second collection of songs he calls Abokobi on Sunday, December 15 at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra.

Tracks on the Abokobi album include Agro, African Unity, Do Me Preko and National Anthem. Owura’s favourite genre of music is jazz but is flexible to handle rock and other popular styles. He describes the music on Abokobi as a mix of Afro-fusion and jazz.

The guitar player has plied his trade in Algeria, Libya, Denmark, South Africa and other places and has backed musicians such as Becca, Kojo Antwi, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Hugh Masekela.

Owura mentions great guitar players like Koo Nimo, Eric Clapton, Peter White, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana as some of his biggest influences. Guitar music freaks should be able to assess how those players have impacted his playing after listening to him live at the Abokobi launch.

He says some of the proceeds from the Abokobi launch will go to support the Universal Wonderful Street Academy.

Guest performers at the launch will include Becca, Kwabena Kwabena, Apple and Jon Germaine.
