Prior to Ghana’s general elections in 2016, ace actor Psalm Adjetefio cautioned showbiz industry players to desist from endorsing political parties. According to him then, such act has what it takes to put one’s career in danger.
Thus, the arts and creative industry is replete with sad stories of artistes whose careers nosedived or virtually collapsed as a result of their open involvement in partisan politics. Namely; Lucky Mensah, Grace Omaboe, Clement Boney aka Mr Beautiful, et al.
However, real name Belinda Akua Amoah famously known as Mzbel failed to heed to the advice given by the veteran actor. Songstress Mzbel who was convinced that John Mahama led NDC government will win power campaigned for the above-named political party but they lost miserably.
Two years down the line, Mzbel in an interview with DJ Roar, host of “Entertainment Cirkle” on Kumasi-based Kessben 93.3FM has revealed how her NDC political affiliation has affected her music career.
“Before the removal of NDC from power, I used to play a lot of cooperative organisational gigs. There were some banks, hotels, etc, I used to play gigs for them on yearly basis. Sadly, after the change of government, those in the various positions who used to give me the deals have all been removed and some transferred to different places. This has really affected my music career”, Mzbel confessed to DJ Roar.
