Popular Ghanaian gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has clarified that chanting in gospel music is a divine gift but not a demonic practice.

She explained that the gift is given to special people chosen by God to bring revival.

In an interview with Bernice Owusuwaa on GhanaWeb TV’s Talkertainment, she stated, "It is not demonic. It was there, but it wasn't revealed. Now God is revealing it; it's a revival.

"That is another form of mystery in gospel music that God gives. For me, it is not ordinary; you can't describe it.

Shedding light on the uniqueness of that part of gospel music, she said, "For me, that kind of genre in gospel music that God is bringing from afar is power to revive and to change the mindset of everyone that gospel music is not ordinary; it is given to selected people that God has really called," she said.

"The chanting part of it is when the power of the Holy Ghost comes upon you. You won't even know what you do anymore; it is unknown to the carnal mind. When the Holy Ghost comes upon you, you don't know what you do anymore; He is the one controlling you," she added.

She advised musicians who are not called for that kind of ministry to desist from imitation, stating, "The other part of gospel music God is bringing is fire, and it is not for anyone. Don't try to be like somebody God has given that gift. It is given to selected people. When you try to copy, it's a sin. Let the one God has called to that control it because you can't describe it."
