Zain Ibrahim, the adorable little boy from the popular Pomo Tomato Paste TV commercial, ‘My Mummy Is the Best Cook in the World’, last Saturday outshined actor John Dumelo on the runway at German-Swiss International School Fashion Show to raise funds for victims of the Ivory Coast crisis. The two were joined by actress/TV host, Joselyn Dumas; former Miss Ghana Inna Patty; and broadcaster, Shamima Muslim in a show-stopping celebrity catwalk finale at the event.

Zain’s attire designed by Rima Fahrky was auctioned at 400 USD. When the MC for the ceremony, Anita Erskine asked Zain to quote the initial bidding prize for his apparel, he responded with 50 dollars although all the previous biddings before were done in cedis. Joselyn Dumas’ jacket from ReneeQ went 80ghc; Inna Patty’s red figure hugging, knee-high dress from KNAF Couture sold for 150ghc; Shamima Muslim’s balloon gown by Brigitte Merki went for 620 ghc; while John Dumelo’s shirt from Mina Evans went to one of his biggest admirers for 235ghc.

The main fashion show featured collections from Mina Evans, K’Naf Couture, Brigitte Merki, ReneeQ and Rima Fahrky modeled by students, parents and school officials from the German-Swiss International School. Gretchen Krantz Evans, a parent and member of the Board of Directors for the school stated that the proceeds from the event would be donated to support refugee that fled Ivory Coast during the political crisis that saw thousands being displaced and killed. The donations would be made to the refugees via the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Ivory Coast has been plagued by civil war after a disputed election which led Laurent Gbagbo to hold on to power, rejecting election results as well as diplomats’ efforts to end power struggle. Until he was arrested, he held on to power because he believed there were lots of irregularities in the elections Allasana Quattara won. This power struggle resulted in loyalist of both men fighting each other. Several homes were raided whiles thousands of inhabitants became homeless. Photos by Theresa Meka
