Young children were not left out of this year’s Homowo celebrations as they took to the stage of the ‘Gamashi Homowo Bash’ to display their dancing, singing and football talents as well as entertain the visitors who have come from far to witness the annual festivities.
Homowo festival is celebrated by the people of Accra (Ga-Adangbe). This festival is celebrated in the month of August to hoot at hunger. The Ga natives also take the opportunity to thank the gods for their protection, making them successful and also seek more blessings for the days ahead.
As part of the week long celebration, a special meal named Kpokpoi, which is not an ‘everyday’ meal is prepared on Saturday for public consumption by various family house, later the Chiefs of every township take a walk through the streets to sprinkle the KpoKpoi meal, it is believed that ancestors come to feed on it.
On the evening of the festival, entertaining shows are organised at various celebration points.
