Accra Oct. 29, GNA - Bi-Tonic Singers, a choral group based in Accra on Friday donated five million cedis to Help Age Ghana, to help uplift the spirit of the organisation.
The amount constitutes 70 percent of monies raised from a choral concert organised by the singers to help the aged in Ghana. Mrs Margaret Ferguson, Founder of Bi-Tonic Singers and a Ghanaian based in the United Kingdom, said the group had earlier made donations to the Osu Children's Home and the Korle-Bu Children's Ward "but this year we decided to help the aged".
She expressed the hope that her group would organise more of such concerts to help people in Ghana and expressed her appreciation to all those who donated monies towards the success of the programme. Ms Joanna Naadu Baddoo, a Board Member of Help Age received the money and said the organisation was trying to get the government interested in the plight of the aged.
"Let the aged have a little bit of the cake they've helped to bake. Everybody needs someone so that we can care and share", she added. Touching on the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Ms Baddoo appealed to the youth to live healthier lifestyles so that they would be in a position to care for the aged in their families.
Mr Ebenezer Adjetey-Sorsey, Executive Director of Help Age Ghana, noted that the aged needed more help and said it was the first time a singing group was helping.
He, however, complained about people who used the organisation's name to arrange programmes but fail to donate the money as promised and commended Bi-Tonic Singers for the kind gesture.
