Following GhanaWeb’s report that some residents of Chorkor, a suburb of Accra defied President Akufo-Addo’s directive to stay at home, Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has had her say.

Lydia Forson noted that though the culprits are in clear breach of law and order, they are not entirely to blame as most of them have not been informed on the severity of the novel Coronavirus.

According to her, the scene at Chorkor on Easter Sunday clearly shows that the usage of the English language in disseminating information is not working, hence the need for government to use the chiefs and opinion leaders to communicate critical information to such people.

Lydia Forson said, “We need to reach and educate people in a language they understand, use their chiefs, pastors and everyone they may listen to”.

She emphasized: “There’s a reason why we’re able to put a ban on noise making and they obey, or a curfew when a traditional leader dies. Communicate with them in a language they understand!”.

On Easter Sunday many people were seen at one of the Chorkor beaches having fun in Easter celebrations.

While some were showing off their swimming skills, others were captured either playing football or seen doing acrobatics with friends and loved ones.

Barely an hour after GhanaWeb broke the news, security personnel were deployed to Chorkor and its vicinities to enforce the lockdown and hopefully prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus.

*sigh I’ve said this repeatedly, people aren’t taking this seriously because we’ve not given them enough to make them see the severity of this. We need to reach an educate people in a language they understand, use their chiefs, pastors and everyone they may listen to. There’s a reason why we’re able to put a ban on noise making and they obey, or a curfew when a traditional leader dies. Communicate with them in a language they understand! The abrofos3m is clearly not working- those that matter aren’t necessarily on social media or watch the news. Even in the various languages it has to be strong so they get it. Also how did these people get there without being stopped by security officials?
