Committee formed to plan Odwira festival in Breman Baako

Breman Asikuma (C/R), June 3, GNA - A 26-member planning committee, headed by Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Boasiako, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Coordinating Director, has been instituted to plan the celebration of Odwira, a festival of the chiefs and people of Breman Baako.

Odwira is celebrated to remind the people of their migration from the Ashanti Region in 1703, under the leadership of the late Nana Awuah Nyarko, to their present location. Berima Kweku Adu-Twim Brawiri II, Chief of Breman Baako and the Akyempimhene of Breman Asikuma Traditional Area, inaugurating the committee, entreated them to work hard to ensure the success of the festival.

The festival, which would take place in November 2009, would coincide with the 10th Anniversary celebrations of Berima Brawiri II on the throne.

It would be under the theme: "Celebrating 10 years of peace and unity in Ghana".

Among the activities to be planned for the celebration include general clean-up exercise, football gala and Symposium. The symposium would be under the Topic: Sustaining Democratic Governance in Ghana".

Other members of the committee are Mr Kofi Tutu Baidoo, District Director, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as Vice Chairman and Mr Erasmus Ayaa Otoo, District Coordinator, National Youth Council as Secretary
