Congrats to Sarkodie but thanks to Quophi Okyeame

Sarkodie and his flotilla of friends did marvelously well at the Apollo Theater last weekend, thanks to the ingenuity of the organizers who believed and trusted that, the chap from Ghana can fill that auditorium.

What is even more enthralling for me; was his ability to inculcate live band action in the performance of some of his popular songs: That for me was ground-breaking.

The organizers need all the commendations because, they surely must have put a lot of resources and efforts in the PR machinery to ensure that the Apollo was heavily filled to witness a night of an all –African cast, from performing artists to supporting band.

Indeed, patrons who bought tickets to watch the show have paid glowing remarks to the organization of the event, and none, not one negative incident was attributed to the event, and that’s huge, especially from an audience in US, which is very critical when it comes to events.

Congratulations to Sarkodie for headlining a very good show, commendations to all the other artistes who went in to offer their support and props to the organizers for making sure the show happened, and of course, to every person who believed in the African arts and patronized the show.

In the midst of the appellations for Sarkodie, Quophi Okyeame is also taking the flack for a facebook post in which, he only sought to put the records straight with regards to history.

He’s been called jealous, a hater and all manner of invective's which are all totally undeserved and unnecessary.

In Ghana, we’ve made it a habit to twist history, alter facts and sway sentiments; unnecessarily and Quophi’s aim was only to ensure that the right stuff is written, the right stuff is said and the right history is recorded.

His post may have been misunderstood and misrepresented, but clearly, he is right in his call and we need to thank him, for bringing our minds to the facts.

Sarkodie is not the first Ghanaian to have played at the Apollo and as writers, presenters and commentators of the entertainment industry; we should be able to do enough research in order to disseminate the correct information to the populace.
