Kumasi will on Thursday witness the first ever Ghanaian contemporary art exhibition at the Prime Motors Showroom located at Ahenema Kokoben in Kumasi.

The exhibition dubbed ‘Silence between the Lines’ is a thoughtful selection of artists who are at the centre of an emergent wave of contemporary art in Ghana. Their varied visions, radical in their conception and execution, can be understood as anagrams of a transformative future.

Contemporary art in Ghana is experiencing new international attention fuelled by the importance of the Kumasi College of Art as a hub of contemporary art in Ghana and West Africa. The show will celebrate new Ghanaian approaches to arts making and is the first major exhibition of its kind in Kumasi.

Among the sixteen artists and artist-collectives on the show are Ibrahim Mahama, Dorothy Amenuke and Bernard Akoi-Jackson who are key features in international and global scale exhibitions and projects in the Saatchi Gallery, Stedelijk Museum, the 1:54 Contemporary Art Fair respectively and upcoming Biennales.

Other Ghanaian participating artists include Emmanuel Kwaku Pianim, Mavis Tetteh-Ocloo, Emmanuel Opoku Manu, Yaw Owusu, Jeremiah Quarshie, and Lawrence Baganiah

The event is being put together by ?y? Contemporary Art Ghana, led by Niels Staats, supported by Kwaku Kissiedu-Boafo and George Ampratwum both of Contemporary Art Centre at the College of Art, KNUST with k?rî'k?chä seid’ou as the artistic director.
