Content creators tried to create beef between Stonebwoy and me - Sugar Ranking

Ghanaian reggae-dancehall veteran, Sugar Ranking, has disclosed that some content creators attempted to create a rivalry between him and Stonebwoy, despite there being no issues between them.

In an interview on TV3, Sugar Ranking, who was away from the creative industry for some time while serving in the Ghana Armed Forces, explained that since returning from the military, he has not had any communication with Stonebwoy.

He said the attempts by some content creators to create tension between them were only aimed at generating hype for their platforms, but such narratives were not helpful to the industry.

“A lot of content creators were trying to create some beef between Stonebwoy and me, but there’s nothing of that sort. Since I came back from the military, I’ve not spoken to Stonebwoy. I haven’t called him. All the hype they are trying to create for their content is not good,” he said.

Sugar Ranking stated that he was only discussing the origins and development of reggae-dancehall music in Ghana, a conversation in which Stonebwoy’s name naturally came up due to his contribution to the genre, but some content creators took his statement out of context.

He noted that Stonebwoy is a hardworking artiste who has played a significant role in the music space, and his mention of the artiste was not meant to suggest any form of disagreement or rivalry.

“They took what I said out of context. I was trying to explain the genesis of reggae dancehall, and definitely, Stonebwoy is a strong and hardworking guy, so he would naturally come into the story. At one point, I mentioned his name, but to the fans it didn’t go on well,” he explained.

Sugar Ranking further clarified that there has never been any conflict between himself, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy, stressing that such a situation will never happen.

He criticised some content creators for spreading narratives without facts, arguing that such actions could negatively affect the image of Ghana’s music industry.

“It’s not the fans, it’s the content creators. I don’t want to mention names. Some of them don’t have facts or evidence; they just talk and try to destroy our industry. There is no beef between Wale and me, and there is no beef between Stonebwoy and me. It will never happen in our lives. It has never happened before,” he noted.

Sugar Ranking also disclosed that he has returned to full-time music after his time away from the industry and is currently promoting a new project titled “No Pressure.”
