Coronavirus: It may take years for audience to comfortably attend shows – DKB

Many hold an opinion that life may return to normal after the coronavirus pandemic but will take years for people to adapt to the space they were familiar with.

Ghanaian comedian, Derick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB has shared the same view on why life after the novel coronavirus may take years for patrons to attend shows again.

In an interview with KOD, the award-winning comedian noted that many people will prefer to watch live shows at home than to be present at the venue with an overcrowded audience due to the outbreak.

He noted that for fear of catching the COVID-19 by touching contaminated surfaces, not observing social distancing, many will choose to be home and observe the show. It may take some time for such individuals to reconsider their thought of being at the event venue.

Making reference to the 1918 Influenza Pandemic [Spanish flu] which killed an estimated 50 million people, DKB stated that it took 15 to 20 years for people to adapt to a normal lifestyle.

He indicated that the future of live events in Ghana will suffer because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“In 1918 Spanish Flu broke out and it caused people this same panic. It took almost 20 years for people to adapt a normal lifestyle,” DKB told KOD

Speaking about concerts/shows going virtually, DKB noted that though event organizers will miss the presence of the human factor at event grounds which makes the show lively and fun, it is imperative to also digitalize shows to stay in business.

“I’m sad for us [entertainers] because we’re the biggest losers. We should rather think of digitalizing our events and programs.” DKB added
