A section of the public believe the court system in Ghana has given more Government officials and other public office holders the advantage to embezzle state fund without properly accounting for their deeds.
But, Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale believes it’s about time corrupt government officials are made to test the full rigors of the law as ordinary citizens are made to go through for same misconduct.
Speaking with Starr Fm’s Giovani Caleb on Starr Drive, the Zylofon Music artiste said it would have been good if government appointees and public officers are subjected to corporal punishment to serve as a deterrent to others practicing same vices.
Shatta Wale shared his thought on how an ordinary person is jailed for many years for pilfering yet a government appointee who has misappropriated funds meant for good course is left off the hook.
According to him, the country will be a better and comfortable place to live in if officials working for Government are given tough punishments as in Former President, Jerry John Rawlings’ era.
“For me first I had always shared a view that if an officer steals the country’s money, he or she needs to be jailed or subjected to Rawlings’ type of punishment where the person is laid in public and given lashes. We’re leaving in a system where we are scared to speak the truth and that is our problem. When we really stand on our feet as youth and we say no to such corrupt acts in government, government officials will be very scared in deceiving us.” Shatta Wale told Starr FM
