Ejisu (Ash), July 13, GNA - a Magistrate's court at Ejisu on Monday bonded a 25-year-old unemployed man who attempted to commit suicide to be of good behaviour for one year.

The culprit, Kwadwo Owusu from Kubease near Ejisu, who pleaded guilty will serve a one-year prison term in default.

The court also ordered him to report to the Ejisu police every three days. He will serve a six-month prison term if he failed to do so. Prosecuting, Police Inspector S.S. Kudolo told the court that at about 1600 hours on July 7, this year, there was a misunderstanding between the accused and his grandmother during which he (accused) threatened to commit suicide because he was fed up with the world. He said the accused entered his room and locked the door and with the threat at the back of her mind, the grandmother suspected that the accused was up to something.

Inspector Kudolo said when the accused did not come out of his room after sometime, she sought the assistance of one Kwabena Sarfo, a next-door neighbour who forced the door open.

He said upon opening the door, they found the accused trying to hang himself with a nylon rope and so they rescued him, but he told his rescuers that he would commit suicide at all cost.

Inspector Kudolo said when he entered his room, the accused again tried to commit suicide but a neighbour heard his scream, forced the door open and cut the rope with which he was hanging himself and with the assistance of the accused person's father Opanin Osei Hyiaman, they took him to the police station. 13 July 04
