Court convicts mobile phone thief

Sekondi, May 27, GNA - Godwin Mifetu, a 26-year-old unemployed, on Thursday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrates court for stealing a Samsung mobile phone at a Church of the Latter Day Saints. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his plea but the court remanded him in prison custody to re-appear for judgement on June 3, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere, said sometime this month, the complainant, Stephen Anokye Donkor attended a function of the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Sekondi.

He said the accused, who was sitting behind Donkor asked Donkor to allow him to use his mobile phone to make a call to a brother. Sergeant Okyere said when Donkor consented, the accused asked him to remove his chip from the phone because he has one. He said the complainant agreed to the request of the accused and handed the phone to him.

Sergeant Okyere said the accused could not make the call in the Church room because according to him "there was no network there". He said the accused told the complainant that he wanted to go outside the room to make the call and Donkor agreed. Sergeant Okyere said the accused went outside with the mobile phone and never returned and a report was made to the police who arrested him during investigations.
